Police in Hail arrested a 27-year-old Saudi for promoting a fake Haj campaign where individuals are lured into paying a sum of money for “luxury” services, including lodging and food at the holy sites.
The police found in his possession receipts totaling SR67,000. The campaign advertised luxury housing and camps and open buffets in Mina and Arafat for SR3,000 per person, according to the Criminal Investigation Department. The man’s statement to the police revealed that he operated from a real estate agency office that he had rented out on a temporary basis for two months.
Hail Police director, Maj. Gen. Yahya Bin Saaed Al-Bladi, called on pilgrims wanting to perform Haj to ensure that a campaign promoted by the media or by individuals has permits from authorities to avoid falling prey to fraud or corruption. Al-Bladi also called on people to report fake campaigns. The man was referred to authorities pending investigation.
